Life Skills Training Provided for Female Students at EPSU
Ethiopian Public Service University (EPSU) organized a one-day life skills training for newly enrolled female students of the 2018 E.C. academic year as part of its regular academic orientation program.
The training was jointly organized by the Women’s Caucus of the House of People’s Representatives, the EPSU Women’s and Social Affairs Directorate, and Break Sru Trading PLC.
The session covered key topics including “Goal Setting,” “Time Management,” “Personal Experience Sharing,” and “Designing Your Future.” It aimed to help female students adapt to university life, overcome challenges they may face while living away from their families, and build confidence and essential life skills for academic and personal success.
During the opening ceremony, Dr. Azeb Assefa, Dean of the Training Institute at EPSU, delivered a welcoming address. She emphasized that university life introduces students, especially young women to a new environment where independent decision-making becomes vital. She also highlighted the importance of soft skills such as communication, emotional intelligence, and time management, which play a critical role in shaping their success.
“The university will continue to support you throughout this new chapter of your life as you write your own story,” she added.
Mrs. Fatuma Ali, Executive Director of the Women’s Caucus at the House of People’s Representatives, officially opened the training. In her speech, she noted that the initiative was designed to empower young women and help them build the capacity to reach higher goals in their education and personal development.
“As students, there are many distractions on campus, but this training gives you the awareness and confidence to overcome challenges and stay focused on your purpose,” she said.
The training was conducted by Mrs. Mahilet Solomon from Break Sru Trading PLC, who provided an engaging and motivational session based on real-life experiences and interactive discussions.
The event concluded with inspirational reflections shared by Mrs. Alemnesh Birhanu and Mrs. Fatuma Ali, members of the Women’s Caucus, encouraging participants to make the most of the lessons learned and strive for excellence in their studies and future careers.
