Ministry of Federal Affairs Donates Computers
The Ministry of Federal Affairs donated nine computers to ECSU on January 15, 2013. The computers will exclusively be used by women students who came from the four emerging regional states, Afar, Benishagul Gumuz, Gambella and Somali, as part of the joint effort of the ministry and ECSU to build the capacity of women in those states.
Representing the Ministry of Federal Affairs, Zayneba Sunkemo Adem, handed over the computers to President of ECSU, Dr. Hailemichael Abera.
Speaking at the handing-over meeting held on the premises of ECSU, Dr. Hailemichael Abera said,
“The Ministry of Federal Affairs is not only giving us ideas but it is also supporting us by providing education materials. Today it showed its support practically by donating computers.”
The computers are used by the women students mainly for browsing the Internet. Dr. Hailemichael reminded the 51 students who were in attendance at the handing-over meeting that the Internet is a large library and advised them to build their capacity using the Internet. He said that although the students already have access to the Internet seven days a week, 24 hours a day the additional computers will make the service more easily accessible near their dormitories. He thanked the Ministry of Federal Affairs saying that making new technologies easily accessible to the women is another way of helping them and building their capacity to become competent civil servants.
Zayneba Sunkemo Adem on her part said the pilot program was launched as part of the Ministry of Federal Affairs’ plan to build the capacity of women.she said
“When they graduate and go back home, we believe these students will contribute a lot to the development of their respective regions. The program is promising and the Ministry of Federal Affairs plans to work with the Ethiopian Civil Service University and continue the program in the coming years,”
Representative of the Students, Kulule Negewo, thanked the Federal Affairs Ministry for providing the computers to them.Kulule said.
“I have no words to express my gratitude for the support we are being given,”
Since they joined ECSU in May 2012, the students have acquired computer skills and they now how to browse the Internet.
Meaza Tesfaye, a young student from Gambella Regional State, said, “Since I came here, I have learnt a lot about computer. We do our assignments using the Internet. We know how to browse using Google.”
it is believed that for Meaza and the other female students from emerging states, the computers donated by the Ministry of Federal Affairs makes their study easier and more effective.
