Orientation Given to New Entrant Students
Students joining ECSU in the second semester of the 2012/13 academic year were given orientation by the heads of relevant departments and offices on March 22, 2013.
The orientation was given by representatives of Registrar, Student Service, Health Service, and Guidance and Counseling Office. They briefed the students about, the services that are being provided to them, and also about their rights and duties.
The Health Service Head, Defar Assefa, told the students that the annual health budget allocated for a student is 50 birr. He said the expectation is that not many students are going to fall ill and the budget allocated to many of the students are used by some who face health problems. “Our clinic mostly gives treatment to emergency cases.” Defar also warned the female students to use contraceptives whenever they go back home.
Head of Student Service, Abebe Tegegn, on his part said that chewing chat, smoking cigarette, coming to the dormitories after 10:00 pm, getting drunk, shouting and disturbing in and around dormitories, practicing religious activities that disturb others are forbidden. “Cleaning service is provided only along corridors and in toilets. The janitors don’t clean your bedrooms. You have the responsibility to that,” he told the fresh students.
The students raised several questions and they were given answers.
