Orientation on University Level BSC Prepared for the University Staffs
Ethiopian Civil Service University Center for Academic and Professional Development organized a daylong orientation to academic staff on University level Balanced Score Card document on September 14, 2010.
Center head Ato Aynabeba Andualem said on the occasion that
"the University conducted BPR study and identified four core and four support processes and deployed the human power accordingly. Trainings were given and consultations were made before and after the implementation of BPR."
As a complement to the BPR study, the University selected a tool called BSC to measure performances and set a strategic Management team in October 2009. Since then the SMT was working rigorously to prepare the University level BSC and succeeded in doing so, said Ato Aynabeba.
Dr.Haile Michael Abera President of the University on his part said
"however good we are at systems and structure, working on the human capital is the most important thing. we have the knowledge in every aspect like in teaching, accounting, managing, etc ... and we are developing the application of it i.e. the skill."
Parallel to this our attitude towards what we do and how we do it matters equally as our knowledge and skills in our performance. Therefore, we need to sharpen our attitude as more and more scientific and professional, more and more democratic and tolerant, said Dr. Haile Michael. If we do this, we can be first .when the University is at the forefront, it ultimately means that each individual is at the forefront too, he said in conclusion.
The college’s consultants, Ato Mohamed Adem and Ato Atikilt Hagos highlighted the importance of Performance Management. Ato Abate Zewdu head of Institutional Planning and Assessment Office presented the University level BSC in brief. Following that cascaded BSC document of IPMDS was presented and discussions were held.
Dr.Samson Kassahun, vice president for Academic and Professional Development and Ato Tamirat Mota vice President for development and Administration reflected their ideas on the over all session and what needs to be done in the future. Dr.Samson finally said as a pioneer educational institution to implement BSC, bench marking visits are expected in this year and the years to come. Therefore, we should be ready for that by internalizing the processes. Institute directors, Department and center heads should play a pivotal role in this respect, said Dr.Samson.
In a related development, the college’s administration and management suport staff participated in an orenitation held on University level BSC document on September 16, 2010.The session included a brief explanation on performance management and concept of BSC.
