A-State-of-the-Art Training on the ABC's of Librarianship
"The training was first-rate. It was by common sense I used to work. Now I have turned a well-versed and a full-fledged librarian. I feel like tapping my potential. I am eager to be deployed on the front line so that I headlong engage in better serving clients of ECSU's library."
A representative of 24 ECSU's library staff, who took 80 hours long theoretical and practical training on classification of books, cataloging and customers service, so expressed gratification on 29 June 2012 up on receiving certificates.
The training envisioned by ECSU's library and information center got a green light by Center for Academic and Professional Development (CAPD).
After handing out certificates to the trainees the two seasoned trainees Muluemebet Getachew and Trsit Weheb, Who came from the National Archive and Library Agency, noted that the unprecedented move ECSU took to train so much of its library staff in the face of little attention accorded to the career field deserves appreciation.
They also lauded the thirst for knowledge the well behaved trainees demonstrated and the change they displayed during the course of the training that entailed a project of rearranging and classifying piles of disarrayed books. The training, which picked steam gradually, was a forum for mutual learning, they added.
"There is a lot to be desired on your side in dilating the knowledge you acquired. A stranger in a new city could ask where a road leads but must not expect further support. There is a need to relay on one's industry!" they remarked.
They also appreciated the management unit of the library for allowing its staff members to take a skill upgrading and refreshing training.
In a speech they made in connection with the training deputy librarian Ato Kibru Seleshi and team leader Sebeto Shetu noted arming employees with Knowledge and skill, the two decisive tools that remain with trainees for a life time, is an incentive no less motivating. They said
" knowledge should be translated into skill and urged trainees to pick all the necessary skills when they rejoin the task force of the library anew."
They also pointed out the library's activity has showed an upward swing from day one the chief librarian W/ro Seble Gebreyes began to run it.
W/ro Seble on her part promised to the graduates further training and professional support from CAPD.
She noted it is to express a heartfelt gratitude to the trainers, who shared their wealth of knowledge to our staff members, we asked them to give out the certificates to trainees whose favor they won.
It was learnt that the trainees were taking training at daytime working at night.Seven of the trainees were females.
The trainees didn't hide mal-functional laptops, slid projectors and a less smooth blackboard had robbed their comfort during the training and expressed hope these problems will be addressed in time.
