Students of London University visit ECSU
About 35 postgraduate students and four staff members of the University of London, England, visited the Ethiopian Civil Service University on May 13, 2011.The group also held discussions at Development Learning Center of the University with the President, Honorable Dr. Hailemicheal Aberra on different issues about Ethiopia and ECSU.
According to Dr. Zeremariam Fre, Executive Director of the Pastoral and Environmental Network in the Horn of Africa (PENHA) and Senior Lecturer at Developmental Planning Unit of the University of London, the main purpose of this study tour was to take a look at the current developmental activities, challenges and achievement of Ethiopia and the over all activities of ECSU as well.
Further Dr. Zeremariam said
" the students are graduating class and they are doing their thesis on selected topics. The students were on a project to study Transformational reforms in Ethiopia."
Honorable Dr .Hailemichael Aberra, President of the University welcomed and thanked the group and conducted a power point presentation on the history of Ethiopia and ECSU. Moreover, the presentation covered the Ethiopian constitution, economy, development policies and Strategies, reform implementation approaches and tools. He further describes the objectives, activities, programs and achievement of the University.
The presentation students raised questions. Among the questions forwarded by the students were: Why agriculture led industrialization? How is the urban rural linkage? What is the role of community based organizations in tourism development? What are the factors that affect female participation in political assignments? And how female participation positively affects the health services? Honorable Dr. Hailemichael answered and clarified the doubts raised by the students.
Dr. Zeremariam, Director of PENHA expressed his heartfelt thanks on behalf of the students and University of London to the President Dr. Hailemichael Aberra for his excellent presentation and explanation, and to the ECSU staff who organized this visit He also said there will be similar kinds of study tour in the forthcoming years. The students were later treated with Ethiopian coffee and snack.
