Ethiopian Civil Service University Ethics and Liaison Unit held training on June 10, 2014 with a theme “Fighting against Corruption with Concerted Efforts”
Ato Gebre Tibebu, Head of Ethiopian Civil Service University Ethics and Liaison Unit in his welcoming speech said
"it is quite impossible to develop unless we fight against all forms of corruption and male administration. "
Hence, every one of us is responsible to combat corruption.
Since the establishment of the Federal Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission in 1993, we are trying to contribute our share in fighting corruption by arranging awareness creation trainings in the university, Gebre added.
Ato Haile Abebe, Ethiopian Civil Service University Ethics and Liaison Unit Ethics Officer has given detailed explanation about the different features and types of corruption from different perspectives.
He described types of corruption as: Petty, Grand and Political Corruptions. Petty, Small scale corruption is the everyday corruption that takes place at the lower tier, where the public officials meet the public. Petty corruption is bribery in connection with the implementation of existing laws, rules and regulations.
Political corruption is any transaction between private and public sector actors through which collective goods are illegitimately converted into private-regarding payoffs.
High level or grand corruption takes place at the policy formulation end of politics. It refers not so much to the amount of money involved as to the level in which it takes place: grand corruption is at the top levels of the public sphere, where policies and rules are formulated in the first place.
During the training more than 45 academic and administrative department heads and team leaders were in attendance and interactively contributed their constructive ideas and concerns.
