Training on Didactical Design
An on- line and face- to- face training on didactical design jointly organized by Center for Academic and Professional Development( CAPD) and Development and Learning Center (DLC) was held at the center from 27-28 June 2012.
The training had brought together 74 participans comprising institute directors, department heads, senior lecturers and consultants engaged in the teaching and learning process.
E-learning advisor at DLC Christian Zauge noted didactical design is a science of learning and teaching and added it helps in crafting learning modules, lectures, seminars and university projects.
He also noted trainees are expected to design modules for the new modular curriculum tailored for M.A students and which is in the pipe line to be launched the upcoming September.
He said
" the training had afforded trainees a state-of-the-art input on didactical method, methods of imparting and method of activities."
He also said the training enables trainees to create a best learning environment.
He went on to say the training assists the teaching learning activity shift from lecture and discussion to practice. It as well helps create standard methods to be applied.
It will encourage instructors develop more practice oriented assignment to students he said and added it is also crucial in helping instructors update their knowledge about learning and teaching.
According to him didactical design encourages instructors search for better method of teaching and develop professional material for teaching. It as well affords them have an insight into how to develop assignments.
How to deliver module to students and how to assess and motivate students fall in the objective of the training, he concluded.
Split in to two groups of 34, trainees had practiced the art of preparing modular curriculums.
Speaking about the training, trainees noted that the training will help them to shift from the traditional way of teaching to the modular one favored by the government to be put in full- swing as of the coming academic year.
The former one, they noted, was based on exit- level outcome but this one is based on learning outcomes or module based outcomes.
