Training Given on Digitization of Library
In its quest to modernize its service delivery, Ethiopian civil service University library held a training on digitizing the Library from July 29-31 2014. Some Fourteen trainees drawn from the University`s Library and Information Technology Office participated in the training. The trainees were given the exposure to different softwores and their application.
Ato Mesfin Gezahegn, Director of the Library of Addis Ababa Universtiy underlined the need to digitize the libraries in the country. He said following the increase in the admission capacity of universities in our contrary, the universities can`t afford to purchase all the necessary books to their students. Digitizing the libraries can solve the problems not only in minimizing the money spent on books, but also in saving time to search books from shelves. He also said that the training will enable the participants to provide up to the standard services by establishing system that promotes the Library to next Level and be able to network with renowned universities in the world.
The participants in the occestion expressed their readiness to implement what they acquired during the training. Bahiru Alemu who took part in the training from the University`s Information Technology Office believe that he and his colleagues have got sufficient knowledge to establish the system. As we go along, twe will see the problems and be able to solve them through mutual consultation, Bahiru added. The other participant from the University`s Library, Ato Mulugeta Habte, said the training was given in an interactive way. He added," I am hoping that we will meet in the inauguration of the system by putting all the knowledge we get from the training in practice. "
