Training on how to prepare modular curricula is given to the academic staff of ECSU
Opening the training, President of ECSU, Dr. Hailemichael Abera said that ECSU is in the process of modularizing its curriculum like all universities across the country. He noted that the modular curricula that the university is preparing have to be based on the national goals and situations of Ethiopia, although every curriculum should keep a balance between national and global situations
Dr. Hailemichael said, “This is a great opportunity for all of us to go through this process of modularization.” He called upon the participants to develop curricula relevant to the Ethiopian Civil service.Dr. Hailemichael said
“If something is fit for the purpose, then it has quality. Let’s develop relevant curricula,” .
He also stressed that the curricula should be ready for the next academic year.
While speaking about the expected outcomes of the training, Dr. Tridiv Borah, a Program Advisor at the ECSU Graduate School, said
" the participants are expected to understand the concepts and attributes of modular curricula, analyze existing curricula against modular standards and create modules according to the standards based on international practices."
While comparing modular curricula with the traditional ones, Dr. Borah said, modular curricula are student centered, flexible and interfaced. They are also shareable and easy to network with other institutes and universities.
The training was given for two days on February 14 and 15, 2013.
