Training on Ill –effects and Prevention of Corruption Given to ECSU Staff
The Ethics Liaison Unit of ECSU gave training to over 50 ECSU administrative staff members on Ill –effects and Preventioncorruption. Opening the half day training held on October 11, 2013, Head of the Ethics Liaison Unit, Gebre Tibebu, said the government organized ethics units in different civil service institutions to prevent and fight corruption. He called upon participants of the training to use the knowledge and information they get from the training in the fight against corruption.
Haile Abebe, an ethics officer in the Ethics Liaison Unit of ECSU, while giving the training said corruption is identified as a major obstacle to development, and countries across the world have become more determined than ever to fight it. He said
"currently there are promising development activities in Ethiopia, and the country can only change for the better and its people fairly benefit from its development only when every citizen fights corruption".
Haile noted the government is doing its best to stop corruption, but it can achieve little alone. But, he said, tangible change can be achieved mainly when the society participates actively in the fight against corruption. According to Haile, the training was organized with the objective of bringing about attitudinal change among the participants.
The participants of the training were drawn from nine departments and units of the university administration sections including Procurement, Finance and Property Administration Department, Human Resource Department, Student Service, Admission office, Registrar Office, Information Technology Service, Training, facility and Hospitality Service, Press Unit, and General Service.
