Training for New Female Students Given
The Ethiopian Civil Service University Center for Gender and Development has given a two half days training for about ninety first year female students on October 19 and 20, 2011.
According to W/ro Abay Akemachew, Head of Center for Gender and Development, the main objective of the training was to provide information to female students about the university environment and the centre services as well as to build their capacity to be competent and capable during their studies at the university.
W/ro Abay added after the training the participants are expected to develop team sprit, enhance their communication skill with each other and their lectures and build up their knowledge in reproductive health, sexual transmitted diseases and preventive approaches.
W/ro Abay also said there will be gender related trainings not only for female but also for male students in the future, and the center will facilitate the tutorial class for female students.
Dr. Hailemichael Abera, President of the University welcomed the students. In his welcoming speech he said discussion on gender issues has been given great prospect and due attention.
“Thus this is a good opportunity for you to acquire knowledge about the university, the centre and also other issues which are covered in the training.”
He added gaining knowledge with out skill and attitude means nothing. Knowledge, skills, attitudes and values should be combined to bring about changes. Therefore to achieve what we plan and become competent and successful, we have to strengthen these pillars.
Communications and assertiveness skill, study skill, time management, stress management and reproductive health are some of the training topics.W/t Betelehem Efrem, W/t Bethlehem Melese, W/ro Azeb Assefa and Dr. Girma Alemayehu gave the training.
