The University is Laying the Groundwork to Start the Doctoral Program
Since its establishment the Ethiopian Civil Service University has been offering specialized educational programs that targeted the needs of the civil service and fill the gaps in the area. Up until now the University continues to grow and expand its academic programs and service delivery to meet the growing needs of the public service.
In view of that the University launched the first doctoral program in three fields of studies: Public Management, Urban Planning and Development, and Public Financial Management.
According to Dr. Bekele Hunde, Director of Graduate School, the University is laying the groundwork to officially start classes in April 2011. Dr. Bekele said the University has done a lot of activities to fulfill the basic facilities i.e. classrooms, computers, internet connection, and succeeded in doing so. Concerning the human power, currently there are 9 professors- 3 in public management, 2 in Public financial management and 4 in urban planning and management. The University is now on the way to recruit additional professors in the three fields.
Dr. Bekele said
"Depending on the nature of the courses, preparedness of the participants and depth and scope of the research works, the doctoral program can be completed inthreeto six years, which include time for required coursework and completion of a dissertation "
Dr. Bekele also said the University has given entrance exam to the PhD candidates and thirty two of them are identified to be potential candidates of the inaugural class of the program for this year. Out of these candidates 10 of them are in public management, 9 in public Financial Management and 13 in urban Planning and Management.
