A workshop aimed at kicking-off Urban Management Network held at ECSU
The half day Urban Management Network Kick off Workshop brought four parties together including the Ministry of Urban Development and Construction, Ethiopian Cities Association, Ethiopian Civil Service University and the Addis Ababa University Ethiopian Institute of Architecture, Building Construction and City Development.
Opening the workshop, Academic vice president of ECSU, Dr. Samson Kassahun, said the workshop will help the four parties to work together for the development of cities in the country. He said
" they would be communicating through a network and sign a Memorandum of Understanding."
State Minister of Urban Development and Construction, Desalegn Ambaw, on his part said city development work is challenging and complex. Desalegn said.“We have to create a network and work together. We have been working together but we need to strengthen our relationship,”
Desalegn further said,
“City development should be supported by research. And a system should be developed. We need to identify training gaps. We have to create synergy and strong institutional relationship among us.”
Program advisor with ECSU, Dr. Tridiv Borah, said
"the network could help to optimize urban management, for capacity building, to create synergy and achieve shared response. It will also help them identify shared objectives, common projects, and implement projects.
He underlined the need to be equally responsible and to walk their talk. He also emphasized on the need to avoid imbalance of resource contribution, absence of clarity, lack of commitment and free riding.
Deputy Mayor of Addis Ababa City Administration, Abate Sitotaw, was also in attendance at the workshop. The half day workshop was held on February 20, 2013 on the premises of ECSU.
