ECSU Expatriate Staff Vows to Support the Grand Renaissance Dam
Ethiopian Civil Service University Expatriate staff decided to pledge 10% of their one month salary in support of the construction of the Grand Renaissance Dam. The staff gave pledge letter to the University President Honorable Dr. Hailemichael Abera at the president office on April 29, 2011.
Dr. K.k.Raju, Lecturer at Urban Management Masters Program representing his colleagues said on the occasion that it is a wonderful opportunity for them and they feel proud of supporting such a developmental idea. He added
"We are always part of such developmental activities and we are mobilizing other staff to contribute their share. As a lecturer we also look a head to create awareness among other expatriate staff and our students”
Further Dr. Raju declares we are working together and we want to show our solidarity not only in finance but also in good wishes and we want to see Ethiopia self dependent country.
Honorable Dr. Hailemichael Abera, President of the University, on his part said ," first of all I want to thank you on behalf of the University community and Ethiopian people and Government for understanding the position of Ethiopia i.e. equitable utility of the Nile River.
Secondly, he added,
"you have also contributed money which is not small to the project. This means as you are educated people and scholars, it is really making others know about it. And we hope that this is the time to the international community and developmental organizations to think and understand the issue properly.Ethiopia has never and ever wanted to tamper the Nile to the disadvantage of the neighboring countries"
Finally the president said solidarity is the most important thing in this country to come out of poverty in shortest possible time.Expats from different corner of the world: Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, were the contributors for this milestone project.
