ECSU Community Express Their Condolences
ECSU students, academic and administrative staff expressed their condolences against barbaric attacks on civilians in four Woredas of Gambella Regional State on April 21, 2016 in the event organized at Abay Hall of the university.
A massive and coordinated attack by combined military and armed Mulre tribes from South Sudan has left more than 208 civilians dead and 125 children kidnapped and in addition the assailant looted more than 2000 head of livestock in Gambela Region.
On the behalf of the university president and the university community Ato Birhanu Belayneh vice president for Research and Community Services expressed his deepest condolences to the victims of the attack, the people and the Gambela Regional State.
“It’s terrible to hear about the loss and I express my sincere sympathy on behalf of the university community to victims of the attack. It is totally unacceptable and inhuman act .The Ethiopian defense force have already begun to strike the assailants and operation still going on by surrounding these brutal killers, " said Ato Birhanu .
He added that our brothers, students from South Sudan here in the Civil Service University, should keep on your usual study and the two governments resolve this barbaric act shortly. ECSU will continue its role in the development of democracy and peace in the country and neighboring countries besides building the capacity of the civil servants through education training and community service.
The Ethiopian Civil Service University South Sudanese students’ representative Malual Athian Athian said that we have long historic of brotherly relations with Ethiopian people. I have to express my condolences to the victims of the attack and all Ethiopians on behalf of south Sudanese students at ECSU. The Ethiopian government in collaboration with the government of South Sudan will do their best to rescue the lives of the innocent abducted children and to bring those perpetrators in to book of laws.
The ECSU students’ council president, ECSU Gambela students’ representative, ECSU teachers and administration staff representative passed their deepest condolence message to the victims of the attack and condemned this barbaric act.
