HIV/AIDS Management Unit Trained ECSU Students
Center for Cross Cutting Issues Training and Consultancy, HIV/AIDS Management Unit gave half day training on “Peer Education” for Twenty-four students of Ethiopian Civil Service University on May 27, 2016.
The objective of this training is to enhance students’ knowledge about HIV/AIDS. In addition it is assumed that this training will develop students’ confidence to talk and discuss about HIV/AIDS freely with their peers.
The training mainly focused on how the students can train their colleagues, relatives and family about HIV/AIDS. Most of the students have taken the training on basics of HIV/AIDS. Thus, these students are expected to give training for their peers about HIV/AIDS when they go back to their regions and organizations based on the training they took on peer education.
In the training, points such as the concept of peer education, the importance, challenges and theories regarding to peer education were discussed throughout the training session. The trainees were interested on different topics raised in the discussion. The discussion gave a chance for the trainees to share their personal experience which was very significant for the trainees to learn from one another. They were also actively participating in the discussion by asking and answering questions. There was also a group work activity at the end of the session which helped the facilitator of the training to know how much the training goal is accomplished.
At the end of the training, the trainees forwarded their genuine comments about the training. The training was facilitated by Ms. Salsawit Assefa, Consultant at HAMU.
